NON-LEAGUE went goal crazy on Tuesday night with Chester grabbing headlines after their 8-2 thumping of sorry Aldershot Town.
The Blues picked up their first victory in four games after Sam Hughes’ fifth minute opener sent them on their way to a big three points.
James Alabi netted four in the first half alone and the score was 6-1 at half time with Hughes scoring another and Ross Lafayette responding for the Shots.
Ross Hannah got in on the act after the break and got himself a double before Dan Walker’s strike for Aldershot meant it ended 8-2.
Shots boss Barry Smith told BBC Surrey: “It’s hard to explain it but it’s a totally unacceptable performance and we apologise to all the Aldershot Town fans because that was a performance that we’re not proud of.
“I take full responsibility and it’s me who has put that team out onto the pitch and it wasn’t good enough. I felt it was right for me to apologise to them personally.
“I think Damon Lathrope has been a big miss because he’s the one player who can get the ball down and pass it to get us into good positions.”
It wasn’t just at the Deva that the goals were flying in with Salford City skipper Chris Lynch netting a hat-trick as the Ammies beat fellow promotion hopefuls Workington 5-2 in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier.
The NPL Division One didn’t want to upstaged and remarkably saw two 9-0 scorelines as well as a 5-5!
Ciaran Kilheeney and Chris Gahgan both scored hat-tricks as leaders Warrington Town showed their class by demolishing struggling Droylsden.
Third place Spennymoor Town also netted nine at home against bottom club New Mills while Kendal Town and Prescot Cables shared the points in a ten-goal thriller.
In the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central, Royston Town beat Leighton Town 6-0 and perhaps the most suspiring score of them all came in Division One South & West.
Leaders Banbury United were humbled 7-1 at Taunton Town while Evesham United also took aim, thrashing bottom side Bashley 7-0.
Wow… Impressive Taunton. And well done Chester and more importantly spennymoor 🙂
