ALDERSHOT TOWN players and management will reimburse supporters who watched the 8-2 mauling at Chester on Tuesday night.
The Shots were 6-1 down at half time at the Deva Stadium and ended up losing 8-2 with boss Barry Smith labelling it a “totally unacceptable performance”.
The defeat left the club 14th in the National League and ten points above the relegation zone after their third defeat in four games.
After the match, Smith told BBC Surrey: “It’s hard to explain it but it’s a totally unacceptable performance and we apologise to all the Aldershot Town fans because that was a performance that we’re not proud of.
“I take full responsibility and it’s me who has put that team out onto the pitch and it wasn’t good enough. I felt it was right for me to apologise to them personally.”
And the Shots’ staff have gone one step further after announcing fans who travelled to Chester will get their ticket money refunded.
A club statement read: “Aldershot Town players and management will refund the price of admission for all supporters who attended Tuesday’s 8-2 defeat at Chester.
“Barry Smith apologised to fans at the final whistle, and now the entire first-team squad, including Barry and assistant manager Chris Barker, have offered to reimburse the travelling fans the cost of their match ticket.
“Supporters are invited to apply for a refund either in person at the EBB Stadium or by calling 01252 320211, by Monday 28 March.”
