GARY MILLS has bemoaned his lack of resources at Wrexham, saying there isn’t enough cash left to bring in another striker.
The Dragons have scored only 11 times so far this season in 15 National League games following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Tranmere.
That leaves them as the league’s second lowest scorers and while Mills would love to add to his attacking options, he says that isn’t possible.
“I thought the lads did well. We had a good shape and we worked hard, but we are struggling up-front,” Mills said after the Prenton Park defeat.
“We’ve got a situation where we want to address the striker situation and it’s not possible to do that.
“Unfortunately we did not look like scoring a goal again. We need the striker situation to change. We need more up top.”
Mills lost young striker Kayden Jackson and captain Connor Jennings in the summer and he has struggled to replace their goals.
Michael Bakare, Tyler Harvey and Shaun Harrad are all yet to score in a Wrexham shirt while John Rooney, who signed from cross-border rivals Chester, has struggled at times.
The ex-York and Gateshead boss admits he made mistakes in his summer recruitment but will put it right as the Dragons try desperately to climb the table.
“There’s about four or five players gone elsewhere for better money because I could not afford to give them the money to stay at this club,” Mills added.
“Then you have to go and try and address it. Yes, I might have made two or three mistakes, but who doesn’t as a manager?
“I know what the situation is. I’ve got a squad of players to work with and that is what we work with. We get on with our jobs.
“We came to a club in Tranmere that, when you are talking budgets, probably has double the one I’ve got, but that’s just the way it is. I live and die with the resources I have got. We will put it right.”
