MICKY MELLON says there is still a lot of work for his Tranmere Rovers side to do despite a fantastic victory at Aldershot Town in the National League play-off semi-finals.
Rovers, who finished as runners up behind Lincoln City, won 3-0 in Hampshire on Wednesday night in their first leg.
A Cole Stockton double and James Norwood strike downed the in-form Shots and put Rovers one foot into the promotion final, to be held at Wembley.
Tranmere haven’t conceded three goals in any game at Prenton Park this season but boss Mellon knows his side must be focused for Saturday’s second leg.
“We’re delighted to be ahead at the halfway stage but there is a lot of hard work still to be done in this tie” he told the club’s website.
“Aldershot are a good team and they showed that again tonight so we had to get a hell of a lot right and the lads were massively motivated to do that.
“We value their (the fans) support, we love them to bits and we’ll recover now for another hard game and to represent them as best as we can.”
Shots boss Gary Waddock, meanwhile, said: “I’m bitterly disappointed. We conceded after a couple of minutes and it’s always an uphill battle from then on.
“We’ve made a couple of mistakes and you get punished against good teams – that’s what Tranmere are.
“We didn’t play to the level that we have done since the turn of the year. Our passing wasn’t as good as it could be and we didn’t compete well enough.
“We’ll go up there and why should we play with any fear? You never know in football, especially if we can get an early goal. Tranmere are in a very strong position but we’re not giving up.”
