Wrexham Racecourse

Promotion and entertainment are the priorities for Wrexham, says coach Carl Darlington

RETURNING coach Carl says the club are aiming to get promoted next season – and entertain fans along the way.

The Dragons are about to embark on their tenth season in following relegation from League Two in 2007-08.

Boss Dean Keates has decided to almost completely rebuild his squad at the Racecourse after last season’s disappointing campaign in which they finished 13th.

Former Wrexham skipper Keates has already signed eight players – Christian Dibble, James Hurst, James Jennings, Shaun Pearson, Manny Smith, Sam Wedgbury, Jack Mackreth and Chris Holroyd – with plenty of Non-League experience now on board.

Darlington returned to the Racecourse this summer from Welsh champions The New Saints. He previously served as a coach at his hometown club under Kevin Wilkin and is confident the Dragons will be competing at the right end of the .

“We want to get promoted this year,” Darlington told The Leader. “That is what we want to do internally and I know the fans have been craving that for ten years now to get back up into the League.

“The main aim is to get into the play-offs and build the squad, we have got to gel it so quickly. We want to make sure that we entertain the fans as well, we don’t want to be a boring team.

“We were the second lowest scoring team last season but that will change this year, so we want to make sure that we entertain everyone home and away.

“Make sure that the Racecourse is going to be a fortress for us, get that aura around us so that when teams come here, we have that fear factor again.

“That is what we want to try and create. The fans are fantastic and the players we put on that pitch are going to be front foot players rather than back foot players, and look to play that way.”
