WINTERBOURNE UNITED have resigned from the Step 5 Western League Premier with immediate effect.
The club, founded in 1911 as Winterbourne Wasps, won the Hellenic League Division One West in 2005-06 and 2007-08 before being promoted in 2011-12.
They were placed, however, into the Western League Premier, and despite an impressive 12th place finish in their debut campaign, they have struggled in the past two seasons.
And their run at Step 5 is now over after the Western League confirmed the club, based near Bristol, had withdrawn from the competition.
“It is with deep regret that we have to inform you all of the resignation of Winterbourne United from the Toolstation Western League Premier Division with immediate effect,” a league statement read.
“The club entered the league for season 2012-13 after joining from the Hellenic League. In this inaugural season they finished in a creditable 12th position in the Premier Division which was to be their highest position as members.
“The league table has now been updated to reflect the clubs withdrawal.”
