THE Western League has become the latest Step 5 and 6 competition to confirm an extension to their season after the FA approved the move.
A number of clubs have got over ten league games to fit in before the end of the campaign and the league deadline has been put back until Saturday, May 7.
Gillingham Town in the Western League Premier have 15 league matches still to play while Portishead Town have the same amount left in Division One.
Due to the fixture backlog, the league followed in the footsteps of the Northern League by agreeing an extension to the season after the Football Association‘s Leagues Committee granted their permission.
Barnstaple Town, Brislington, Bristol Manor Farm, Buckland Athletic, Odd Down, Melksham Town and Street – who have all applied for promotion to Step 4 – must complete their fixtures by Wednesday, May 4 to still be in with a chance of going up.
Western League fixtures secretary Andy Radford said: “The FA’s Leagues Committee has granted the Western League an extension to the season and it will now end on Saturday, May 7.
“However, any club that could potentially be promoted from Step 5 to Step 4 must complete their fixtures before Wednesday, May 4 as this is the date of the initial club allocation meeting by the FA.”
