NEWTON AYCLIFFE have been charged with misconduct by the Durham FA after some of their players stormed into visiting Morpeth Town‘s dressing room following an FA Vase tie.
Morpeth, the Vase holders, had won the tie 3-2 but awful scenes followed the final whistle as Aycliffe players fought their way into the visiting changing room.
Aycliffe boss Peter Dixon was sacked following the incident and the club claimed that some of the players involved had also left.
Durham FA’s investigation into the ugly scenes continues but they have charged Aycliffe, of the Northern League Division One, for “failing to ensure that players and/or officials and/or spectators failed to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion”.
Video footage of the incident at Moore Lane Park surfaced after the game and Aycliffe sacked Dixon, saying there was “ongoing ill-discipline shown by some of the players”.
Dixon fired back after he was replaced as manager by Danny Mellanby and Deano Browne, saying he was made a “scapegoat”.
No individual has been charged yet but Aycliffe have been given 14 days to appeal their charge.
